Club Rules 2018

Membership

The Spur was created for the purpose of nurturing creative people and their ideas. Members are encouraged to propose new applicants to join The Spur. The Spur is a boutique and intimate community and the Membership Committee meets monthly to admit new members when space is available.  Membership can be paid monthly or annually (for a 20% discount).  Monthly membership can be cancelled at any time, but no refunds will be provided for any previous payments made.  Members can suspend their membership for one month, per six months of membership.  Members must provide 30 days notice for any suspension requests.

 

Operating Times

The Spur is open for you to enjoy from 8.30a to 7 pm, Monday to Friday, except holiday Mondays and Closed on Saturday and Sunday. Executive members can use their desks at weekends between 9am and 5pm. If the club has to be closed during these hours for private events we will notify you in advance. 

 

Between 8 am and 11 am, there will be a free breakfast with tea by Plain-T, coffee from Golden Pear and bread/snacks provided by us. Sometimes The Spur my run out of breakfast items depending on demand.  So please be understanding in these cases.

 

Complimentary flavored water will be available at all times for members and their guests to enjoy.

 

Between 12:00p and 2 pm, The Spur will offer a lunch service.  All costs for the lunch must be settled by the member for them and any guests before leaving the premise each day.  Cost for lunch items will be shared at the club.

 

From 5 pm to 7 pm we often will have our Speaker Series events and innovation programming.  This will happen in the main lounge area. The Spur team reserves the right to move any of the lounge furniture at any time for any reason. If you are asked to move to accommodate an event or speaker, please be gracious and move accordingly.  

Attire

The Spur fosters a non-corporate, casual environment, but we ask members to be respectful of your fellow members and dress appropriately. Active and gym wear is not permitted and shoes must be worn at all times. Please advise your guests of these standards before their arrival; you are responsible for their compliance with them.

 

Office Desks

Each member is obliged to maintain its desk or office space in a presentable condition and to remove and clean up garbage at or around its workspace.  There will be a cleaning crew nightly to empty trash cans.  

 

Phones

Certain rooms (like the library area) are designated as cell phone free, and it is up to you to familiarize yourself with the rules from time to time applicable to phone use in the club. Please keep your ringers/phones on silent mode. When in doubt, consult with a staff member before using your phone.   

 

WiFi

We have very high-speed wifi network.  The spur is the SSID and the password is available at club reception.  

 

Audio, video, and sound

Except for when in a conference room, movies, videos, songs, internet calls, and presentations must only be played through headphones and should not be audible to any other member or guest.

 

Out of respect for your fellow members, please be considerate when engaging in conversation with coworkers and on the phone by maintaining an appropriate volume level. Please ensure that your guests adhere to our phone policy.

 

There will be low-level music playing in the lounge area all day.  The music is programmed by our team.  There will be no music playing in the conference room or the dedicated desk area.  At 5pm the music and sound level in the club may be elevated, so please plan your meetings accordingly.

 

Printer

We have a B&W laser printer at each location.  Here are the instructions to connect to the printer. Please feel free to print small (under 20 page) print jobs on this printer. If you have a big print job, please contact Mark @Hampton Copy on 631 287 3135 / hamptoncopy@gmail.com or the UPS store in East Hampton. They are a few minutes away and will do same day turnaround.  Any technical issues, please speak to our membership team.

 

Parking

To park at The Spur, please park at the railway station or opposite the station.  Thank you.

 

Photography

We value our members’ privacy and we ask that you not photograph or tag people without their approval. Members are responsible for ensuring that their guests also abide by this rule.

 

Please refrain from using pictures of The Spur for your company website or otherwise without written approval from The Spur.

 

Press and social media

Our community thrives on shared values of respect and we value our members’ privacy. Members will be held accountable if they or their guests disclose or identify other members or guests present at The Spur in any press or social media. Similarly, members and their guests must refrain from identifying or describing any private hire or member event occurring on The Spur’s premises.

 

Confidentiality

The Spur encourages openness and collaboration. In order to promote a free flow of ideas and open exchange of information, all members agree to be bound by mutual confidentiality and to not disclose any confidential or non-public information about other members and their work.

 

Children in the Club

The Spur is designed for adults during the week, but there will be some programming for kids over weekends. Please be considerate of other members if you bring children to weekend programs, who are part of your guest allowance. Please be mindful that the same guest rules apply and you are responsible for their behavior.

 

Animals

No animals are allowed at The Spur, unless the General Manager has given his or her express written consent.

 

Event RSVPs

Please RSVP and confirm attendance to The Spur events. If you are no longer able to attend an event, please inform us at least 24 hours in advance to give other members a chance to attend. Members that repeatedly fail to follow event guidelines will no longer be permitted to attend events.

 

The Spur staff

The Spur staff is part of our community and are highly trained and here to take care of you while you are working and socializing in the club. In the same way that respectful behavior is required amongst members, we require it for our staff; inappropriate conduct with any staff member will lead to the immediate revocation of your membership.

 

The Spur General Manager is Becky.  She will be at the club most days.  If you have any issues or questions, she is your first point of call.  If you do not get a satisfactory, or speedy response, please email members@thespur.com.

 

Guests

Members are permitted up to three guests at a time, (junior members can bring 1 guest). A member’s guests may not enter the club without that member present. Members may not be separated from their guests within The Spur or allow their guests to remain at the Club when they leave. Conference room attendees may stay for the duration of the meeting.

 

Members are responsible for ensuring their guests follow all club rules and policies, and can face suspension or termination of membership if their guests violate those rules.

 

Conference Rooms

Conference rooms are booked through The Spur calendar or speaker to the GM, or emailing members@thespur.com, and may only be used by the member who made the reservation. Members are not allowed to enter conference rooms without first reserving the conference room and may only stay in the conference room for as long as they have booked it. It is up to each member to make sure that they have left the conference room when their time is up (the time showed in The Spur Calendar governs when one booking ends and another begins). Members must leave the conference rooms clean, with all equipment put back in its place and without leaving any coffee cups or other dishes behind.  Members can book the conference room for a maximum of 1 hour at a time, twice a week. For usage more than this, please contact our GM.

 

Inventory

We may ask you to sign an inventory checklist on your first and last day as a member. Should you lose items at any time, we will ask you to replace them at cost.

 

Private events

We may at times close some or all of The Spur to members for private events. Please honor and respect the privacy of all private events occurring at The Spur and refrain from communicating any information about the event to third parties.

 

Bills

All bills must be settled in full before leaving the Club. There are no credit facilities. Members are responsible for their guests’ bills if they are not paid.

 

Illegal substances

No member or guest of a member shall use, ingest, possess or distribute illegal drugs while on The Spur’s premises. If any of the uses above prove true, the membership in question will be terminated.

 

Food

Outside food is not permitted anywhere at The Spur. Members with dedicated desk space may bring cold and odor-free food from home to be consumed at their own desk, as long as they can do so without inconveniencing other Members.

 

Storage

Please utilize the cabinet storage provided for all paperwork, files, office supplies, and other personal effects. The Spur assumes no responsibility for your belongings, equipment, work product or personal effects, and you acknowledge that the club may not be supervised by The Spur’s staff at all times. In an effort to preserve our aesthetic environment, we please ask that you keep your space neat and free of refuse. Please maintain the location of desks in their original layout.

 

For executive members with dedicated desks, you also have a lockable filing cabinet for your use. You will be provided with a key. If you lose the key, and the duplicate can be made for a $10 fee. Please contact the General Manager for more information.

 

To preserve the finished surfaces of the facilities, please maintain all artwork, posters, hanging papers, and other decor only on the pinboard panels provided, and please keep panels flanking either side of your desk clear of any writing, sticky notes, shelving, or other decoration.

 

Task lights may be available upon request. Please contact the General Manager or reception for more information.

 

Unless required for medical reasons (and approved by the General Manager), chairs for your use will be provided by The Spur.

 

If you wish, the name of your company can be identified on our digital kiosk in the reception area.

 

All other décor not listed above will require approval from The Spur. Please contact the General Manager or Membership for more information.

 

Smoking policy

All members and their guests are obligated to abide by The Spur’s smoking policy then in effect and to all applicable no-smoking governmental laws, rules and regulations. No smoking is allowed inside The Spur at any time. The Spur reserves the right to designate certain designated outside areas of the Club premises as smoking areas and to change the location of such designated areas at any time. Notwithstanding, all members and their guest are requested to respect the wishes of other members and their guests with respect to smoking and to refrain from smoking when requested to do so by another member.

 

Interpretation of the rules

In the event of any dispute arising as to the meaning or interpretation of these rules, the matter shall be referred to the Membership Committee, whose decision shall be final. The Spur reserves the right to terminate any membership at any time, in its sole discretion.

 

Disciplinary procedure

Conduct that is prejudicial to the reputation and character of The Spur may result in suspension or expulsion. Such conduct may include violent or abusive behavior, the communication of information concerning the club affairs or members or their guests in the club to the media. An expelled member may not return to the club as a guest. A refund of the expelled member’s subscription will be at the discretion of The Spur. Any member or members who willfully remove, damage or destroy any property belonging to The Spur or to members or to guests on the premises will be liable to expulsion. Every member binds him/herself to abide by the rules, bylaws, and regulations of The Spur upon acceptance as a member. If The Spur considers that any member’s (or his or her guests’) conduct either inside or outside of The Spur’s premises is, at its absolute discretion, contrary to the interests of The Spur, The Spur may expel the member from the club premises and/or suspend or terminate that member’s membership.

 

The Spur trademarks

Members and their guests shall not use the names, logos, colors, trademarks, service marks, photographs, trade dress, or other identifying features of The Spur without obtaining the specific prior written approval of the specific use.

 

Amendments and additional rules

The Spur may change any of the rules of membership by reasonable notice and communication to its members. Additional rules may be prescribed in specific rooms or areas of The Spur, and the management of The Spur may from time to time prescribe temporary rule changes or exceptions at its discretion.
